The
Fine Arts Department at FLESS is comprised of Visual Arts,
Multimedia technology, Acting and Drama, and the Music
Program.
Visual Arts courses and Multimedia Technology
courses are taught by Ron Chmelyk. FLESS offers Visual Arts 8-12.
Students learn the fundamentals of drawing and design and have
opportunities to study acrylic painting, sculpture, intaglio
printmaking, silkscreen and water colour. Students often display
their work in the school and public libraries and submit their
pieces for competitions such as the Lakes District Alternative Arts
Festival.
Multimedia Technology courses are taught in a
state-of-the-art computer lab. Students learn 3D computer animation,
digital photography, and digital video-making. Students have also
had the opportunity to complete the school Annual and study black
and white photography in the multimedia courses.
Acting and
Drama courses are taught by Mrs. Erin Baker. Students can study acting
from grade 9 through grade 12. Each semester the students perform
productions for both the school and community. Students have also
competed with great success in venues such as the Lakes District
Speech Arts Competition
The Music Program courses are taught
by Mrs. Jody Mowat. Students can take band running from grade 4 through
12. Students have many opportunities to perform for the FLESS
Student Body (Christmas Concerts, Spring Concerts, etc.) as well as
performance venues including Pacific Northwest Music Festival held
in Terrace BC. There is a push each year for a "band road trip",
giving students opportunities to combine traveling, fun, music, and
meeting other students with like interests. In May 2000, the FLESS
Band traveled to Edmonton.
