Webquest .... for the development of our students' understanding of a Canadian provincial culture.
Assignment Page
This Webquest learning system asks that you:
... act as a travel agent and create a travel brochure that recommends from 2 to 3 travel destinations within the province of Quebec.
To do this, you can focus your project on aspects of the following:
-
- culture or entertainment sites in southern Quebec such as art, music, festivals, museums, art galleries, the Winter Carnival, City Hall, Old Quebec Fort to name a few or
- recreation sites such as places to go hunting, fishing, skiing, snowboarding.

A project-based assignment
Your project needs to be a presentation that shows your choice of places as a
- a travel brochure (for help with this go to the following link
for a worksheet on steps to creating a travel brochure)
- a learning log documenting your findings
- and an electronic folder containing images, urls and files of information.
The software and processes that you will need to use could be either:
- MS Publisher or
- MS PowerPoint or
- a word processor or other publishing software
- an electronic folder on a school network server or workstation
- some form of a written document in the form of a learning log that manages and keeps track of your collection of recommendations and information that your group will later use in constructing their project.
Be sure to include the following information in your project:
- geography or where your places are located, and how to get there, including maps
- images from your places that you will include in your project
- language and key phrases a visitor will need to use
- reasons why you think people should visit these places.

Search engines
If you can't find what you are interested in, you need to discuss this with your teacher, then use the search engines in the menu side bar that is included on most pages of this web site. These search engines are "kid proof" and considered safe for students to use. |
Cooperative / collaborative groups
You need to work within a group of from 2 to 3 other people to complete your project. Your teacher will help you to decide upon your group members. Then you and your group must decide who is going to do which part of your project. For instance, who will :
- find maps and transportation to your choices
- find information about the different places
- find images
- find French phrases and language that your travellers will need while in Quebec
- start making the project and which aspects each member will work on.
| When you are working on your project be sure to talk to your group members and your teacher about what you are going to include in your project. |
Informal Resource Links
On the Resources Pages (culture and entertainment, recreation, geography, and language) you can find many interesting places to visit in Quebec. From these pages you can find:
- information about the places that you choose
- images to include in your project, be sure to save them in your electronic folder and bookmark your favourite sites for future use.
Assessment
Read through the assessment page so that you know how your project will be evaluated. You can find this in the navigation bar entitled assessment. |

Internet safety and copyright issues
There are internet safety issues that you need to talk to your class and teacher about and understand as being very important:
- it is dangerous to communicate with anyone from the internet that your parents or teachers do not know about
- if you use images for your projects that come from the sites that are linked here you may use them for educational purposes ONLY, because we have permission to use them
- BUT if you use images from any other site that is not listed in the Resources Pages, or is not from a "free" clip art site then you must contact the author of the site and ask for permission to use their property. This is easy to do and your teacher can help you to do this.
People who make web sites are generally very happy to have their sites and property used for educational purposes BUT when images and text are used you MUST ask permission.
