Webquest .... for the development of students' understanding of a Canadian provincial culture.
| This Webquest learning system asks that you: |
... act as a travel agent and create a travel brochure that recommends from 2 to 3 travel destinations within the province of Quebec. |
| This page has a great deal of educational information about doing this Webquest. Students may find it easiest to scan through this page then go quickly to the Assignment page and develop projects from there. Teachers may find it helpful to read through the following to develop a better understanding of the complete framework of the Webquest as a whole. |
Focus of the project
Students can choose to focus on one of the following:
- two to three cultural sites or
- two to three entertainment sites or
- two to three recreational sites or any combination of the above
And use a choice of:
- presentation software
- creating different visual products
- working within different size groups

Four aspects of this Webquest. Students need:
1. to understand the goals of this quest or the reason we are embarking on doing a Webquest. There are many ways for teachers to guide students through the learning outcomes that the Ministry of Education has set out. One very exciting way is by using technology to address these learning outcomes. We have chosen social studies, language arts, visual arts, and core French as the focus for this Webquest. We need students to:
- develop a better understanding of a diverse Canadian culture
- focus upon aspects of Quebec diversity
- integrate technology with this goal.
2. to develop project activities and follow provided resource links to develop a deeper understanding of aspects of Quebec culture. Students need to:
- work collaboratively and cooperatively within a group
- follow the links that we have provided or find their own.
3. to decide upon what projects will look like. In discussion with group members and their teacher, students need to consider how final projects will be presented using technology tools. Students need to decide upon:
- what software to use
- what is available within the school
- how to make changes to anything that is suggested here.
4. to use the support and help for both teacher and student. The pages are labelled:
- assessment - this is a page with a 4 point rubric scale on possible assessment strategies
- curriculum - as this Webquest has been created in BC the applicable BC Ministry of Education Learning Outcomes have been listed
- resources - is a comprehensive informal resource page of various links that are listed throughout this Webquest
- Kids Safe Search Engines - as safety and security on the internet is a critical concern we have included this side bar list of effective student search engines. Students need not be restricted to using these alone as they are merely added as a precaution if students, teachers or parents have concerns about issues that may be difficult to control.
- checklist of technology skills - to help teachers and students who are doing a Webquest for the first time
link
- worksheet on travel brochure- to help students focus their findings for the creation of the travel brochure
link
- timeline from the start to the completion of the Webquest. Follow the link:

It needs to be stated that NOTHING within this Webquest is set in stone. Changes and adaptations are expected as there are many learning situations that require different approaches.
This Webquest can be used in its entirety, as piece meal, as chunks or as a framework from which creative students and teachers can utilize and develop different outcomes. We, the developers, encourage diversity and creative solutions. We only ask that respect is given for the property rights of commercial developers, government agents and anyone else that needs to be accessed.
Good luck and good hunting.
