      • resources and links to further expertise
  2. INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITY - an activity focus to practice your web design skills
DESIGN FEATURES to be conscious of:

Graphics

  • it is recommended that a designer use the same images on each page to increase loading time
  • with components of Photoshop (or similar graphic software) transpose images into small packets to increase load time
  • use self created images or those that are available on the www as source files downloaded to your own cpu
  • when using art from an outside source be sure to include the URL in the bibliography of your site
Written for all browsers
  • check for compatibility in both I.E. an Netscape Communicator
Effective use of tables
  • experiment with various table and text box configurations
  • this page is created using tables as I find them more forgiving than standard text boxes and frames

Effective layout & structure

  • develop a navigation bar that is copied to each page thus creating a standard format through which your viewer moves and in which is built consistent links to all parts of the web site
  • add an additional table into which you add all other data and images
Backgrounds
  • if you choose to add a background image to your site be sure to optimize it before loading it
  • to keep load time to a minimum and ensure browser compatability, consider using a colour rather than an image as a background
External Links
  • link to external sites where necessary
Internal Links
  • use links on the navigational bar and page anchors to move through your site
INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITY:
Instructional Activity is to Create an Online Resume for Yourself by including the following information:
  1. your employment interests
  2. your educational degrees and certificates
